Select the Medicare Supplement plan that best fits your health care needs and budget.
Knowing you have selected the best plan for your health care needs is priceless and invaluable.
Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap): Extra insurance you can buy from a private company that helps pay your share of costs in Original Medicare. Policies are standardized, and in most states named by letters, like Plan G or Plan K. The benefits in each lettered plan are the same, no matter which insurance company sells it.
Every Medigap policy must follow federal and state laws designed to protect you, and it must be clearly identified as "Medicare Supplement Insurance." Insurance companies can sell you only a standardized policy identified in most states by letters.
Generally the same monthly premium is charged to everyone who has the Medigap policy, regardless of age. Your premium isn't based on your age. Premiums may go up because of inflation and other factors, but not because of your age.
Original Medicare pays 80% so having a Supplement will cover the additional 20%.
Medigap plans allow you to keep and choose any doctor that accepts original medicare.
Unlike a PPO or HMO, Medicare Supplement plans do not require an a network or referrals
Premium costs vary by region, and different insurers offering the same plan in the same region can have vastly different premiums. For example, a male in the same zip code will pay a higher monthly premium than a female.
